Breath work is a powerful technique that can help relieve stress and anxiety.
It is also always available to us and easily accessible.
If you watch babies breathe you will notice that their bellies are moving up and down and sometimes even their hips are moving with their breath.
That is because babies do what is called diaphragmatic breathing intuitively.
Somewhere down the line though, we lose the ability to breathe in this manner as we let the stresses of life get to us. It happens to kids as well.
We start breathing in the upper part of our chest, so our breaths are cut short.
We do what is called stress breathing.
We can however reteach ourselves to breathe deeply into our diaphragm and gain back the benefits of this powerful technique.
At Move B Happy we teach families how to workout together, but we also teach them the powerful breathing techniques that help you relax.
Studies published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine and the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine found that a specific type of breath work called “diaphragmatic breathing” reduced symptoms of anxiety in adults and children.
Other studies published in the Journal of Sleep Research and Journal of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics have found that “relaxation and yogic breathing” improved quality of sleep.
Breath work can promote relaxation and thus reduce anxiety and stress and improve sleep.
Check out our program Relax (Beginner) under Courses and you can learn how to use breathing as a technique to help your child and you relax and fall asleep easier at night.
We also use breath work techniques during and at the end of a workout in our other program 15 Fun Minutes to Strong Kids.
We teach you how to breathe while you work out to help you and your children perform better and recover when the exercise is strenuous.
Don’t underestimate the power of this powerful technique, our own breath, and learn more about how to use it in our Courses!
